Comments:

A wise man once said that we are 10% of what happens to us, and 90% of how we perceive it. During the late 60 era, many military family members (dependents) were up rooted from the security of their homes and social lives and scattered across this nation and many continents in support of national security. The Vietnam War placed a heavy burden on this nation’s youth. We as military dependents experienced a constant reminder that a beloved family member might become a memory. The luxury bestowed upon most teens of spending 4 years in a single High School was often no more than a dream for military dependents. The fear of enrolling in a school system where not a single person was known to us, and where perhaps we wouldn’t be accepted as equals constantly gave us cause for concern.
Carroll High School was an established oasis of time-honored value, friendship, and understanding. The student body quickly assimilated our masses and shared their school spirit with us. Our haunting insecurities were quickly laid to rest.
While it is true that I was a student of that school for no more than 14 months (68-69), I felt as though I had spent 4 wonderful years there.
I participated in school sports (track and spring training for football). I have a true memory of tackling Wilber Jackson on the football field. Go figure!
I spent my summer month’s life guarding on the lake at Fort Rucker. I enjoyed many physical hours on that beaches life guard chair day dreaming about a certain Carroll High School cheerleader who had captured my heart. Whenever I wanted her, all I had to do was dream. Her voice was so soothing…I hardly felt the sun.
By the time school had started in the fall, my father had received orders for Vietnam. My family had to move back to Texas. I never asked that cheerleader out…even though I think that she would have gone. Too much pain in separation. She wasn’t the type of person one would love and leave. I had a tremendous respect for her and your school. Back then, we didn’t have the modern technologies for staying in touch that are so mainstream in today’s society.
Thank God for the wonderful students who shared their lives with us…and graduated as the class of 1970.

Gratefully, Dewey Jackson

Hello Classmates of 1970, It was my honor to be at Carroll High for only a few short months. When my father came home from Viet Nam, he was stationed at Ft. Rucker. We moved to Ozark during the last four months of my senior year. While I hated to not graduate with long time friends at Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls, Texas, I had the privilege of meeting some very fine people. I remember some of you so vividly and I wonder about you all. I came to Ozark a few years ago to visit with friends made there at Carroll High School and was saddened to hear of the deaths of some very dear people I had known while in Ozark. Ozark is still the beautiful place I fell in love with. I was not with you long, but I often think back to that time and I am so proud to have been a part of a school I was so proud of. I wish each and every classmate well. I hope and pray you are all healthy and happy and may God bless you all. Since I was not there long, you may not remember me, but I have some great memories of some of y'all ! With warmest wishes, Vicky Blake McDonald

If anyone knows Jeff Parker's email, please let us know. Thanks!

What class is being honored/was honored at homecoming this year? I would like to go back for a visit. I attended the 10-year reunion but couldn't make it to the 25-year reunion. I would like to hear from anyone who remembers me.

Greetings to all my classmates. This seems to be a CHS class that seldom has reunions. I missed the 10-year reunion in 1980, but I did make the first night of the 25-year reunion in 1995. I think it's time to plan another one... By the way, does anyone know the whereabouts of Jimmy Day?

Greetings to all the classmates of 1970. This is the class that never (well, almost never) has reunions. There was a 10-yr reunion in 1980, which I missed, and a 25-yr reunion in 1995 (great time). Would love to hear from anyone that would care to email me..
