02/07/09 - Greetings fellow CHS Eagles of 1989,

We've created a website for the reunion this summer - it's www.carroll1989.com 

Please visit the site & do the following:

1. Join the site by clicking on Classmate Profiles link on the left hand side of the page. Click on your name and follow the instructions to register, create your profile and let us know if you will be attending the reunion.

2. Click on the 20 Year Reunion link to view the itinerary for the weekend and answer a few questions to let us know what events you plan to attend.

The links on the left hand side of the page have detailed info on the events planned - we are still working on a few details, such as cost, and will post updates as soon as things are finalized so please check back often. 

This site will be the main point on contact and method of distributing info for the reunion but we have also posted information on facebook, classmates.com & the CHS alumni site. We also plan to run ads in the Southern Star and the Dothan Eagle. We haven't located everyone yet so please forward this to anyone in our class that might not be aware of the reunion. Look for periodic emails with lists of people for whom we don't have any contact info. Our goal is 100%!!

01/22/09 -  CHS Class of 1989 20 Year Reunion

The new Dale County Jail was opened.

Dr. Pete Mosley was named "Alabama Superintendent of the Year".

Jennifer Walker was the number one rated single girls high school tennis player in the state.

Richard "Deon" McLeod was killed in a drowning accident. 2,500 people attended funeral services at the Ozark Civic Center.

Agnes McKinney - Homecoming Queen

National Events

Democrat Lloyd Bentsen lambasted Republican Dan Quayle during their vice presidential debate, telling Quayle, "Senator you're no Jack Kennedy"

Opening ceremonies for the Summer Olympics took place in Seoul, South Korea. 

Former Attorney General John N. Mitchell a major figure in the Watergate scandal, died in Washington at age 75.

Hurricane Gilbert slammed into Jamaica with torrential rains and winds of 145 mph, killing 45 people and causing damage estimated at up to $1 billion.

Radical activist Abbie Hoffman was found dead at his home in New Hope, Pa., at age 52. 

Former middleweight boxing champion Sugar Ray Robinson died in Culver City, California, at age 67.

Singer/song writer Roy Orbison died near Nashville, TN at the age of 52.

The nation's worst oil spill occurred as the supertanker Exxon
Valdez ran aground on a reef in Alaska's Prince William Sound and began leaking 11 million gallons of crude. 

World Events

95 people died in a crush of soccer fans at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England.

The Soviet Union released Mathias Rust, the young West German pilot who had landed a light plane in Moscow's Red Square in May 1987.

Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini called on Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie, author of the book "The Satanic Verses," a novel condemned as blasphemous.

270 people were killed when a terrorist bomb exploded aboard a Pam Am Boeing 747 over Lockerbie, Scotland, sending wreckage crashing to the ground.

Hello Friends,

If you want to take a stroll down memory lane, I have posted some videos on Youtube from "Anything Goes" in 1987. The quality is fairly good considering it came off a 20 year old video tape. Actually, it's pretty miraculous that the tape still worked. I didn't put any titles on the Youtube pages because I don't want chance it getting taken down because of copyright issues. I hope to get more up as I have time, so check back to my account on occasion, but enjoy these for now. Let me know what you think!
