Watch for updates to this section! Local Events Sales tax in Ozark went from 7 to 8 percent. Ozark City Schools lost 118 students on opening school day, from the same time the previous year. Ground breaking ceremonies took place for a D.C. Fields Auto Electric plant and retail store at the intersection of U.S. 231 and Hwy. 123. A record City of Ozark budget of $7.7 million was passed for fiscal year 93-94. Tommy Lavender was sworn in as Dale County Revenue Commissioner after being appointed by Gov. Fob James to take the place of James Watson, who retired. A grant was received by the City of Ozark to construct a pedestrian/bicycle trail around Dale County Lake. Cecil Skinner was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame. Skinner was the head basketball coach at CHS from 1962-1989. The musical "Guys and Dolls" was performed at Flowers Center for the Performing Arts by the CHS musical theater. Rodney Dodson was named the Director of Vivian B. Adams School, succeeding Celeste A. Sneed who retired. Auburn University head football coach Terry Bowden spoke to the Dale County Auburn Club. 179 seniors graduated form CHS on May 27. Katie Hyatt was Little Miss Ozark in 1994 and Miss Ozark was Adrienne Holman. National Events A bronze statue honoring the more than
11,000 American women who'd served in the Vietnam War was dedicated in Washington D.C. Former President Nixon suffered a
stroke at his home in Park Ridge, N.J.; he died four days later at a New York hospital,
aged 81. President Bill Clinton signed the Brady Bill into law, which controlled the sale of weapons in the U.S. President Clinton signed into law the North American Free Trade Agreement. Dizzy Gillespie, the famed jazz trumpeter, died in Englewood, NJ at the age of 75. Janet Reno became the first female attorney general. Tennis hall-of-famer and human rights advocate, Arthur Ashe, died in New York at the age of 49. The Supreme Court ruled that parodies that poke fun at an original work can be considered "fair use" that doesn't require. permission from the copyright holder.
World Events South Africa's newly elected parliament chose Nelson Mandela to be the country's first black president. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin
and PLO leader Yasser Arafat signed a historic accord on Palestinian autonomy that granted
self-rule in the Gaza Strip and Jericho. PLO leaders and Israel agreed to recognize each other, clearing the way for a peace accord. The Vatican and Israel agreed to recognize each other. Guest Book Entries

CommentsHey if there is anybody out there that would like to talk to me please feel free to email. My sis just went up to her 10 year reunion back in August. She had a blast. I didn't graduate from CHS, but would have had we not moved to FL. I am now living in Auburndale, FL with my husband and three children. I have a 6 year old in 1st grade, and 4 year old who will start kindergarten next year and a 9 month old. I stay home with them and they keep me very busy. Also if anybody knows where Jodie Payne is or even a married name or anything, please email me. I would love to get in touch with her, but can't remember her parents names or her married name. ya'll take care. send some cold weather this way.
