Local Events

Topical Storm Alberto dumped 9.5" of rain in Ozark on July 3, 1994. Several more days of rain followed with damage estimated at $3 million to public property. Thirty-one streets were closed in the city.

Gov. Jim Folsom officially opened the new Ozark Boys and Girls Club.

Construction began on the Jameson Inn, a 40-room motel located adjacent to El Palcio restaurant.

Dale Medical Center administrator Everett B. Claypoole resigned.

Steve Clouse unseated veteran State Legislature Nolan Williams in Dale County by 2577 votes to 2098.

James G. Sasser of Ozark was named by Governor-elect Fob James, to the cabinet-level post of Director of Legislature Affairs.

222 graduated from CHS on May 26.

A Sears retail store was opened in Ozark by Willie Ross.

Tom McClendon, Director of Ozark Parks and Recreation department, was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame.

Candace Hickerson was crowned Miss Ozark. April Renee Williams was crowned Little Miss Ozark.

David Benefield and Frank Carroll were appointed to the Ozark City Board of Education.

Dr. John H. "Pete" Mosley retired as Ozark City School Superintendent ending almost 20 years of being the Superintendent.

National Events

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Jordan's King Husyn signed a declaration at the White House ending their countries' 46-year-old formal state of war.

Benjamin Chavis Jr. was fired as head of the NAACP after a turbulent 16-month tenure.

Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was murdered in a Wisconsin prison by a fellow inmate.

President Clinton abruptly halted the nation's three-decade open-door policy for Cuban refugees.

Francisco Martin Duran fired more than two dozen shots at the White House (Duran was later convicted of trying to assassinate President Clinton and was sentenced to 40 years in prison,)

A Chicago-bound American Eagle ATR-72 crashed in northern Indiana, killing all 68 people aboard.

Heather Whitestone of Alabama was crowned Miss America, the first deaf contestant to win the title.

A jury in Pensacola, Fla., convicted Paul Hill of murder for the shotgun slayings of an abortion provider and his bodyguard; Hill was sentenced to death.

Woodstock '94 opened in Saugerties, N.Y

An American Eagle commuter plane carrying 20 people crashed short of Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina, killing 15.

A truck bomb destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City killing 168 people and injuring hundreds. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were responsible for this tragedy.

Stephen G. Breyer was sworn in as the Supreme Court's newest justice in a private ceremony at Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist's Vermont summer home.

Shannon Faulkner became the first woman to attend classes at The Citadel in South Carolina. She soon dropped out.

Byron De La Beckwith, a white separatist, was convicted in Jackson, Mississippi, of murdering civil rights leader Medgar Evers in 1963, and was immediately sentenced to life in prison.

House Republicans pushed through $17 billion in spending cuts, prompting a veto threat by the White House.

NASA astronaut Norman Thagard became the first American to visit the Russian space station Mir.

Wow! Those pictures are great! It really did bring back memories seeing a lot of you out there. I wish I could have made it, but my wife and I are traveling at the moment, and about to move from North Carolina to California for the next few months. If any of you don't remember me, I was the dorky looking kid with the glasses..and walked to school all the time..hehe. I got to say, Grady King...lol...you used to pick on me in elementary school..and now your paying for it baldy..lol...just kidding. You guys all look great! I was sad to see that we lost 3. I remember them well...and actually remember Susan Livingston. She and Crissy used to be inseparable. They will be missed.

Hello classmates! I just looked at the wonderful pictures from the reunion. Looks like everyone had a wonderful time. I really hate that I missed seeing all of you. The class still looks fantastic after 10 years. I am still living in Ozark and teaching school at Mixon. My husband and I are expecting a little girl in December. Like most of you I am doing great.
