Local Events

Bob Bigley, a 1967 graduate of CHS, came home to take over as Administrator of Dale Medical Center.

Opening enrollment at Ozark City Schools was 3067, 48 fewer students than the previous year.

Joseph H. Adams celebrated the 40th anniversary as editor-publisher of The Southern Star, on the 130th anniversary of the newspaper.

The city dedicated a Uh-1 Huey helicopter display on U.S. 231.

The Ozark Country Club was purchased by two Fort Myers, Florida golf pros.

200 seniors graduated from CHS.

Dr. Billy Gaither and Councilwoman Marilyn Tamplin were named Ozark’s man and woman of the year.

Robert Lewe Faust, a well known resident was found dead after being missed overnight in below freezing weather.

The University of Alabama head football coach Mike Dubose, attended the fourth annual steak and burger supper at the Ozark Boys and Girls Club.

Sgt. Charles Ward, of Ozark and of the Alabama State Troopers, was promoted to Post Commander at the Dothan Post.

Elizabeth Brooke Shepard was crowned Miss Ozark and Ashley Kaye Danner was crowned Little Miss Ozark.

Larry C. Hicks resigned as principal of CHS, leaving after 27 years in the Ozark City School System.

National Events

James Earl Ray, who confessed to assassinating Rev Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 and then insisted he was framed, died at a Nashville hospital at age 70.

fashion designer Gianni Versace was shot dead outside his Miami home; suspected gunman Andrew Phillip Cunanan was found dead eight days later.

Betty Shabazz, the widow of Malcolm X, was fatally burned in a fire set by her 12-year-old grandson in her Yonkers, N.Y. apartment. 

Singer John Denver was killed in the crash of his privately built aircraft in Monterey Bay, Calif., at age 53, on October 12, 1997.

Beth Ann Hogan became the first coed in the Virginia Military Institute's 158-year history.

Timothy McVeigh was convicted of murder and conspiracy in the Oklahoma City bombing. 

Eldridge Cleaver, the fiery Black Panther leader who later renounced his past and became a Republican, died in Pomona, Calif., at age 62.

Singer-actor Frank Sinatra died at a Los Angeles hospital at age 82.

President Clinton made the first use of the historic line-item veto approved by Congress, rejecting three items in spending and tax bills. 

A civil jury found O.J. Simpson liable for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the drug Viagra, made by Pfizer, saying it helped about two-thirds of impotent men improve their sexual function.

World Events

A car crash in Paris that claimed the lives of Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed and their driver, Henri Paul. 

Britain bade farewell to Princess Diana with a funeral service at Westminster Abbey.

i just wanted to say hey to everybody. it is nice to see updates on how everyone is doing and where they are at. i am  happy to say that i am marrying the love of my life this november. we have two beautiful boys already and we are getting ready to try for another. i nearly lost him a month ago in a car wreck, he is a deputy in dale county and was running code to a lady being robbed at gunpoint and flipped his car several times and peeled his face back.. we are so blessed he is back at work now  with a major scar on his face but that is all that he got.. i dispatch for dale county police fire and rescue, and i love it. i did the army military police thing right out of high school but i could not stand being away from my family like that.. well i would love to hear from some of yall so give me a shout out

Great site! Its been fun looking at old names and remembering the wonderful 90s:-).

I live out of state now and try to get back down to Ozark every 4 or 5 months or so. I haven't kept in touch with many people from high school, but I still wonder what ya'll are up too.

I went from being the quiet one in high school to actually TALKING for a living. I work for the National Park Service as an environmental education/interpretive park ranger. Its a lot of fun and has let me live in Virginia, Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming and a few other places. I'll be back in Wyoming at Yellowstone in May, so if you want a vacation in wonderland...come see me! I have a nice, comfortable floor you can rent for free.

I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers me! Take care.

Hi to all. I am now married (aug '03) and living in Oklahoma City where my husband (Josh) is stationed at Tinker AFB. Right now he is in Iraq and won't be back until March '05...maybe some of you other folks there will look out for each other!!! We don't have any children, just a cat.I will be graduating with a Liberal Arts degree in May '05. I then hope to pursue a degree in Nursing. It is good to read about everyone on here!! Hi there to all my friends from high school. I have talked to a few people from my class but not that many. I am currently living in Florida on the Gulf Coast. I am married to a wonderful " Mike" October 20th will be 1 year. We own our own business and i am currently attending college working on a 2nd degree. hi everyone. Most of you probably don't remember me but i was the shy dorky girl with the long hair and big plastic glasses. well I joined the army 2 weeks after graduation and got out in december of 2001. I met my husband at fort campbell, ky and we got married in september of 2003. I now live in Texas (blah) where my husband is staioned (he's in the army) we are at fort hood. He is in Iraq. I work at Wal-mart here in the vision center. No kids yet just 2 dogs and a full time job. waiting for my sweetheart to come back from Iraq. I have changed a TON since high school email me and I will tell ya more!

Since then, I attended Troy State for 2 years and then transferred to Emory University in Atlanta. I am in my final year of study majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience and will graduate in 2004. Wow! Looking at this website has brought back so amny memories from high school! I, like others have said, wish more of our alumni knew about this!!
